Ethiopian Culture
Ethiopia is very diverse in their culture. They have many unique cultures and many that they share with other African Nations. The country is very diverse with people from all over Africa, Europe, and some Americans. They have been involved in civil wars and wars against other countries for several years including a long war with Eritrea over their independance that just recently ended. Some scientists believe that this is where human civilization first began. Food cultures: - Ethiopians have a staple meal called Injera which is eaten at every meal and it is a sour pancake like bread. - Coffee Celebration - The Ethiopians celebrate their main cash crop and spend all day brewing dark black coffee before taking turns drinking small amounts from cups. Music Cultures: - Ethiopians perform and create many types of popular and folk music. Most of their folk music is very upbeat and played with a lot of wind instruments and drums. A famous folk singer is Mahmoud Ahmed. Athetic Culture: - a lot of Ethiopia's culture is in their athletics. Ethiopian track and distance runners have been dominating the olympics and world championships for many decades. one of the greatest runners of all time was Abebe Bikila, a barefoot marathoner who won two olympic gold medals while setting world records in both races. Origin and Diffusion Culture: - When Ethiopia is where anthropologists believe the first humans lived. They believe it was along the Great Rift Valley that the first human civilization was located. It was also the first place that they discovered hominids (humans) that stand upright. The culture was diffused by travel. People speaking different languages traveled and settled in Ethiopia, from there they told others who moved, and now there are over 80 ethnic groups that live in Ethiopia. |
Czech Culture
The Czech Republic has a wide diversity when it comes to culture. They have many parts of cultures from many different ethnic groups in their country. Family Cultures: - The family is the center of society with everything revolving around it. - Czechs are very private until you start a personal relationship. - Czech women stay home and take care of the house and kids. - Women work when men are at war. - Women have a role in how the families money is spent, get to socialize, and get to have a say in politics. - No arranged marriages. - Children stay at home with their mother until age 3, then go to nurseries or kindergarten. Music Cultures: - Has roots 1,000 years ago in the Sacred Music (earliest music) - Plays traditional music - Czechs love classical music -Ivan Moravec is a famous pianist from the Czech Republic. His career lasted about 50 years, he was presented with 4 awards for his music, and has written numerous record labels. Athletic Culture: - The Czechs have a wide history of athletics. One of the Czech Republics most famous athletes is Emil Zatopek. - Emil Zatopek >Nicknamed "Human Locomotive" >Won 4 Olympic Gold Medals: 5,000 meters, 10,000 meters (2x), and Marathon (his first marathon). >Won 3 European Athletic Championships Gold Medals: 5,000 meters, 10,000 meters (2x), and one bronze in the 5,000 meters. > Was presented with the Pierre de Coubertin Medal after the Olympics. > Inducted into the IAAF Hall of Fame. Origin and Diffusion Culture: - Slavic tribes from the Vistula Basin settled in the regions of Bohemia, Moravia, and Silesia. They brought their language and culture, and that mixed with the culture of indigenous people. Then they started a kingdom that lasted about 600 years, than some of the Czechs revolted and changed the leader. Over the years people immigrated and emigrated, spreading the culture. |
