Subsistent or Commercial?
- In Ethiopia agriculture is mainly subsistent. This means farmers focus on growing enough for their families to eat and survive off of. Ethiopia also has commercial agriculture. This is when farmers produce a lot of crops to be sold, traded, and distributed. Locations: >Highlands-- For good soil and plentiful rainfall. >Great Rift Valley-- For the good soil, irrigation, and pastures. >Lowlands-- Disease and disease carrying insects discouraging farmers. Size of Farms: >Average farmer holds 1.2 hectares of land, and 55.13% of farmers hold less than 1 hectare of land. Labor Force: - 85% of citizens Cultivatable land: - 11% of the 70% of cultivatable land is used so far Cultivation: - Done by hand, no tractors or machinery. Economics: - 46.6% of GDP is agriculture, and most of the exports are crops. The Czech Republic has a commercial agriculture. It is mainly based on producing as much crops as possible to export and sell.
